Established to recognize and encourage excellence in the humanities, the National Humanities Center (NHC), located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, brings both established scholars and promising young Ph.D.s on thresholds of their careers to its facilities for advanced study, research, writing, interdisciplinary conferences and seminars.
In 1988, Tri Delta celebrated its Centennial with permanent endowment fund for the NHC. The fund allowed for a quarter-acre commemorative garden at the Archie K. Davis building of the NHC and sponsors two fellows per year to study at the center.
The 2006-2007 fellows are Daniel W. Conway, professor of philosophy at Pennsylvania State University, and Sarah D. Shields, professor of History at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While at the NHC, Daniel will be working on his project, Kierkegaard’s Modernity, and Sarah will be working on Fezzes in the River: Creating and Contesting Identities in Alexandretta.
These outstanding scholars mark the 37th and 38th Fellows that Tri Delta has sponsored. Daniel and Sarah will certainly continue the trend of academic excellence that came before them, and Tri Delta is proud to be affiliated with them and NHC, as both the Fellows and the organization are tremendous leaders in the field of humanities.
