The Colorado River, Ariz. Alumnae Chapter currently claims four active members, yet it is extremely successful and staying strong. What’s their secret?
GENESIS
Mary Lou Tudor-Hayes, Southern California, speaks about her love for Tri Delta and her passion for the alumnae experience matter-of-factly, like there is no question she would be doing all she can to keep the Colorado River, Ariz. Alumnae Chapter vital.
The chapter is located in Lake Havasu City, a tiny tourist town in the middle of the desert. It is home to the original London Bridge, which was purchased by the American entrepreneur Robert P. McCulloch in 1968. It’s also the second-biggest tourist attraction in Arizona, after the Grand Canyon. When Mary Lou moved there from California 13 years ago, where she started the still-thriving Southern Orange County Alumnae Chapter, she didn’t know if there were any Tri Deltas in the area. “I thought, ‘I’ll just put something in the paper and see who is out there,’” she says. To her surprise, four other Tri Deltas responded. They met at a local restaurant and enjoyed bonding over their shared Tri Delta experiences.
Feeling inspired, Mary Lou reached out to Executive Office for a list of any Tri Deltas in the Colorado River area. She produced a newsletter, sent it to those on the list, and came up with 10 more interested members, enough to charter the group. Read the entire story in The Trident.
